Hiking to Bridesmaids Falls, Provo Canyon

Bridesmaids Falls is one of many waterfalls in Provo Canyon – this one will have very few people compared to its sister falls, Bridal Veil Falls. The falls are roughly 50 ft high!

About

DO NOT hike this in winter! This is one of the main avalanche chutes and is extremely dangerous with snow and ice.

Bridesmaids Falls is a perfect Summer & Fall hike – it is shaded in the mornings, only 1.3 miles one way, kid and dog-friendly, plus you get great views of not only the waterfall but across Provo Canyon as well.

You may also see these falls with a few different names. On Gaia GPS it is marked as “Smith Ditch Falls #1”, and I have also heard people call it “Springdale Cascade”.

There isn’t much shade despite the trail being slightly overgrown. The trail to Bridesmaids Falls is mainly lined with oak shrubs that aren’t tall enough to protect you from the sun. The last 50 ft or so is steep, loose rock. Younger kids might need help here.

My friend and I hiked our dogs here early on a Sunday morning and we had the falls to ourselves!

Directions

From I-15, take exit 272 and head East on 800 N/US 189 in Lindon, UT. Follow this as it turns into Provo Canyon, staying in the left lane. Drive 3.3 miles and turn right into the signed Lower Bridal Veil Falls area.

Here is a driving map.

When you see this blue sign for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (BST), turn right and up the hill. We kept the dogs on leash here since so many bikes were racing through. Once we turned, we let them off.

As mentioned before the last little bit is steep, loose, and rocky. This is looking back down.

But finally, we made it! At the base of Bridesmaids Falls there was a little pool – perfect for Charlie to dip in!

What a cool waterfall! So glad Charlie is still able to do easy hikes with me even though he is 12.5 years old!
