Cross Country Skiing in the Uintas

Cross country skiing in the Uintas is one of my favorite winter activities! I've been cross country (XC) skiing since 2008 when I lived in Montana. My favorite place to ski was Lone Mountain Ranch, but when we moved to Utah, no resort compared to that. So, I had to find new places to ski, and of course, I wanted to bring Charlie along. Yes, Utah has some small xc ski resorts like White Pine Touring, but you can't bring dogs to those places. Round Valley is a nice dog-friendly option but gets boring after awhile. The past few years I've been dying to get out and xc ski in the Uintas but didn't have a good car to get there in winter. I was afraid my little Sonata would get stuck, and I didn't want to deal with it.

Cross Country Skiing at Ogden Nordic

Ogden Nordic is located in Eden, Utah, northeast of North Ogden. Ogden Nordic began in 1997, as a non-profit organization including several community outreach programs such as Utah Special Olympics, ski school, hosting Winter Trail Days, Junior after school ski program, races, and moonlight glides. They have roughly 30k (18.6 miles) of groomed trails, with mostly beginner and intermediate skill levels. A handful of experienced trails are available as well. Rentals are available, and the daily trail fees are noted below.

Cross Country Skiing at Sundance Nordic Center

The Sundance Nordic Center is located right next to the Sundance Ski Resort, in American Fork Canyon. There are 15 k (9.3 miles) of groomed ski trails, and 10 k (6 miles) of snowshoe trails. I had all day to explore, so my goal was to try and ski all 9.3 miles of trail! I was pretty close, coming in at 7 miles for the day, only because one of the trails was closed due to recent avalanches. Sundance Nordic offers trails for all skill levels, and all trails wind through pristine backcountry. Sundance Nordic sits at 7,000 ft, and the surrounding views can't be beat. Grab your skis (or rent!) and a trail map, and let's go!

Cross Country Skiing at Wasatch Mountain State Park

Wasatch Mountain State Park is located in Midway, Utah and offers activities year-round such as hiking, biking, riding horses, riding ATVs, playing at the 18-hole Golf Course, as well as snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. You can also camp at the Pine Creek Campground in the summer months. Wasatch Mountain State Park (WMSP) is a 23,000 acre preserve, which was set aside by the state in 1961 and the park elevation is at 5,900 ft.
