About
Timp Falls is a captivating natural attraction nestled just a mile up the Aspen Grove Trail. This trail, known for its scenic beauty, offers a unique blend of terrain that caters to a variety of hikers. The journey to Timp Falls is divided into two distinct segments, each with its own charm and history.
The initial half-mile of the trail is a rugged, rocky path. This section was reconstructed by the forest service following a significant washout caused by heavy snowmelt. Hikers will find this part of the trail to be an engaging and moderately challenging ascent, as the rough terrain demands careful footing and adds a sense of adventure.
As you progress further, the trail transforms dramatically. The second half-mile is paved, a testament to its historical roots. This section dates back to the early 1930s when the trail was originally established. The now roughed paved pathway offers a more accessible hike, making it ideal for families and those seeking a less strenuous experience.
Upon reaching Timp Falls, visitors are greeted by the refreshing sight and sound of cascading water. The falls provide a picturesque backdrop, perfect for photography and simply enjoying the serene environment. The combination of the trail’s varied terrain and the falls’ natural beauty makes this hike a delightful outing for people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re looking for a brief yet invigorating hike or a family-friendly excursion, Timp Falls delivers an unforgettable experience.
Directions
From SLC head south on I-15 for roughly 30 miles (depending on where you start from). Take exit 272 in Orem, heading East. Drive for 3.7 miles on this road, then veer left for Provo Canyon. Then drive another 6.7 miles, through the tunnel, then turn left at the brown sign for Sundance. Drive past Sundance for 5 miles, until you reach the fee booth for the Alpine Loop Road. Just after the fee booth, turn left into the large parking lot. From October to Memorial Day, the fee station is closed, but there is a self serve fee station in the parking lot. If you are there only to hike, there is only one fee option – the 3 day pass which costs $10. There are restrooms in the parking lot. Follow the signs for the Aspen Grove/Timpanogos trail. Here is a driving map.

It only took us about 30 minutes to reach Timp Falls. The little dog is one a regularly babysit, named Chewy! He is a 13 year old Beagle/Cocker Spaniel.
We were still feeling good so we hiked further to the next waterfall. This one is unnamed on Gaia GPS.
So fun to get all the furr-babies on a hike together!
We decided to go even further to about 2 miles one way, but once we hit even more snow we decided to turn around. The dogs also got too hot at this point.
