Directions

Cedar Wash Arch

From Escalante, head East on HWY 12, then south on the Hole in the Rock Road. Reset your odometer, and drive 3.2 miles. Turn right at the brown sign for Cedar Wash Road (BLM 210). Reset your odometer – at 0.8 miles cross a cattle guard. At 3.2 mile the road splits to a sharp left. Turn here and drive another 0.3 miles to the “trailhead”, which looks like a dead end in a very sandy section of dirt road. There is an old brown post with nothing on it. The trail starts to the south. Here is a driving map.

Covered Wagon Arch

Follow the same directions as above, but at the road split for Cedar Wash arch continue another 1.6 miles west along the dirt road, where you’ll see three large boulders and a brown post with nothing on it. Parking is on the left side of the road, where there is only space for 2-3 cars. Here is a driving map from Cedar Wash Arch.

To get back to Escalante, keep driving along this road North for another 8.4 miles, until you reach town, making a big loop. Here is a driving map from Covered Wagon Arch.

Arrive to the arch in 2 minutes. It’s also fun to walk over to the top of the arch – you can barely see me! The span of this arch is only 15 ft wide.

Covered Wagon Arch

(aka Covered Wagon Natural Bridge)

The “trailhead” for Covered Wagon Arch is marked by an empty brown post, and 3 large boulders.

Continue down an obvious boot-beaten path, possibly following cairns.

Arrive to the arch within 2 minutes. When we first arrived, we were actually on top of it.

The better view is from someone looking up to you from below the arch in Alvey Wash. This one is quite small at only 24 feet across, but worth a few minutes to check out.
