Hiking the Station Creek Trail is a scenic and rewarding hike with a 360-degree view of Garden Valley and Crouch, Idaho.
About
The Station Creek Trail is a short but challenging hike at 5 miles round trip with approximately 1,500 feet of elevation gain. The trail winds through dense forest sections and, in late spring, features beautiful blooming Lupine flowers along the route. The payoff is a stunning panoramic view overlooking the valley below. If you’re looking for a longer adventure, continue on to Bald Mountain, which extends the hike to approximately 6.5 miles one way (about 1.5 additional miles beyond the Station Creek summit).
During my May 2026 hike, the Forest Service was wrapping up a prescribed burn in the area, so some sections of the trail and photos show recent burn scars. Even with that, I still found the hike incredibly scenic and think it’s a great option for anyone visiting the Crouch, Idaho area.
Directions from Crouch, ID
From Crouch, drive east on Banks–Lowman Road (ID-17) toward Garden Valley for approximately 8 miles. Continue through Garden Valley and watch for the Garden Valley Ranger Station on your right. The Station Creek Trailhead is located directly across the highway from the ranger station. The drive takes about 8 minutes from Crouch. The short access road into the trailhead on the left can be easy to miss, so keep an eye out as you approach the ranger station. You can also just park at the ranger station, then cross the road to the official trailhead.

Hiking the Station Creek Trail: What to Expect

The hike begins at the signed trailhead directly across from the ranger station near Garden Valley, Idaho.

The trail immediately begins climbing and gains elevation quickly. Burn areas from the recent prescribed fire are visible on the left side, and some lingering smoke was still present during my hike.

Pass an old fence line. During my May 2026 hike, Forest Service crews were finishing a prescribed burn that had started near the end of April.

At 0.4 miles, the Station Creek Trail takes a sharp left turn before climbing two gradual switchbacks.

A welcome stretch of green grass appears here. From this point, the Station Creek Trail rolls through gentler terrain before one final steep climb.

At 1.25 miles, you’ll reach another Station Creek Trail sign along the route.

Beautiful Lupine wildflowers lined the Station Creek Trail as scenic views of Crouch and Garden Valley began to open up.

You’ll reach what appears to be a trail split, but stay right. The path to the left becomes faint and eventually fades out.

The final 0.2 miles bring one more steep climb, but the reward is worth it as the valley views begin opening up.
